Meet the owner
My philosophy for the business is simple - "If I wouldn't eat or buy it, I don't expect you to. If I wouldn't pay that for it, why should you."
I began my career of providing fresh produce every day over 30 years ago. I always dreamed of owning a store where customer service reigned supreme; the business produced minimal waste, it was a pleasure to visit, and staff and suppliers enjoyed working for the company.
Mentored by renowned local grocer extraordinaire Gordon Smith, my knowledge grew, and my dream became a reality. He taught me the importance of building solid relationships with suppliers, who, in turn, then provide our customers with quality produce. He also showed me how to make grocery shopping a favourable experience, not a routine chore.
The result - Fresh On Kendal, where you will find good food, freshly made smoothies, original gifts, a friendly welcome and the knowledge that you are supporting locally operated small businesses and growers. When not meeting the needs of my customers, I like to spend time with my family, which includes Leonardo the turtle and Needles the cat, who thinks he is a tiger. I love listening to a good story, watching a movie, journaling and looking for ways to improve sustainably in the business and live and love local.
