Ingredients:

For the filling:
3 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
3 pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp cornflour (or flour)
For the crumble topping:
1 cup rolled oats
¾ cup flour (or almond flour for a gluten-free option)
½ cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup cold butter, cubed
¼ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds, optional)
Method:
Preheat oven to 180°C Lightly grease a baking dish.
Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, toss the apples and pears with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, lemon juice, and cornflour. Mix well and transfer to the baking dish.
Make the crumble: In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts. Add the cold butter and rub it into the mixture with your fingers until it forms a crumbly texture.
Assemble & bake: Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the fruit filling. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Serve & enjoy: Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, cream, or custard.
Pro Tips:
Mix Apple Varieties – Using a combination of sweet and tart apples (like Granny Smith and Cox Orange) adds depth of flavour to the filling.
Customize Your Spices – Add a pinch of ground ginger, cloves, or cardamom for extra warmth and spice.
Make-Ahead – Assemble in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake, or freeze for a quick dessert later.
